โœฆ Synopsis

Gland packings ate the traditional sealing system for rotary and reciprocating shaft applications, with both compression and moulded packing being the most commonly used. However, they possess several disadvantages including the requirement for a low level of leakage, for shaft lubrication and periodic tightening to compensate for compression set, wear and loss of volume. In this article Stan Nowak of Heliseal Joint Venture talks about the development, testing and benefits of the company's new floating seal, Heliseal, for rotary and reciprocating pumps, which he believes addresses many of the problems.
