In this book, Justice M G Chitkara, who retired as Vice Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Administrative Tribunal, deals with two parallel streams of Kashmir history: on spiritual side, he dwells upon the development of various phases of Shaivism; and on the mundane side, he talks about the history of rulers and the ruled, the religious dissension and, above all, the persecution of Kashmiri Pandits in the backdrop of terrorist activities in the Valley.

Tracing the Shavism tradition in Kashmir, the author discusses at length the diadem of Himalayas, self-realisation, Hindu literature with specific focus on Shaiva scriptures, Bodhyana''s Brahmsutra and Amarnath dham. He takes a close look at ethnic cleaning in the Valley and highlights the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits.
