Tres años después de la muerte de Kapuściński –el hombre que elevó el reportaje a la categoría de literatura, que diseccionó como nadie los mecanismos del poder y que se convirtió en la voz de los excluidos–, Artur Domosławski aborda la tarea de desentrañar las claves que rodearon la vida y la obra del célebre reportero polaco: sus relaciones con el régimen comunista, los avatares de su vida privada y, sobre todo, hasta qué punto son fiables los datos que Kapuściński presenta como ciertos en sus obras. Sin embargo, Domosławski entiende que enterrar al mito no es la función de un biógrafo. Como hombre que le conoció bien, como periodista que había vivido experiencias muy similares en la Polonia comunista y que siempre admiró al maestro, sabe cuál es su cometido: revelar al hombre con todos sus claroscuros, una tarea nada sencilla en la que los límites entre realidad y ficción se difuminan, y transmitirnos el mismo mensaje que Kapuściński se esforzó por hacernos llegar durante toda su vida: que sin entender el contexto de una existencia, nadie tiene derecho a juzgarla.
