β¦ Synopsis
K 4 Bi 2 O 5 has been synthesized as a new phase in the system K 2 O/Bi 2 O 3 . The new potassium bismuth oxide crystallizes in space group P1 with the lattice parameters a β«Ψβ¬ 569.3(2), b β«Ψβ¬ 952.8(4), c β«Ψβ¬ 978.6(2) pm, β«Ψβ¬ 106.47(2), β«Ψβ¬ 105.06(2), and β«Ψβ¬ 106.42(3)Β°, Z β«Ψβ¬ 2. The crystal structure determination (2626 diffractometer data, R 1 β«Ψβ¬ 0.039) reveals isolated molecule anions Bi 4 O 8 \ 10 (site symmetry 1 ), which consist of subunits in the sequence [BiO 3 \ 3 -BiO\ 2 -BiO\ 2 -BiO 3 \ 3 ]. So the new compound can be regarded as a mixed ortho/metabismuthate. The cations form almost regular cubic face centered subcells.
