Romaani esimene osa päädib Eesti ohvitseri õnnetu saatusega, küüditamisega Kesk-Siberisse juunis 1941.
Romaani teine osa algab ühe mägimatkaga aastakümneid hiljem sinnasamasse mägismaale, millest kujuneb tagasitee algus. Ühtaegu on see ka peategelase ja Eesti ohvitseri tütre tutvumise, armastuse ning abielu lugu kuni hetkeni, mil sündmustik sulgub seal, kust see algas.
