✦ Synopsis

Incorporating modern, generalized integral criterion of fracture mechanics into elastic-plastic failure and J-R testing is presented here. Firstly the J integral is expressed in a more appropriate failure assessment diagram. Secondly previous criteria for stable crack growth based on crack tip energy absorbed with crack extension are confirmed. Finally the engineering analysis of J-resistance curves is reformulated.
