Tables and report activity between the beginning of March 1996 through the end of February 1997. The total number of manuscripts decided this year is 168 (see Table ), about the same as the prior year and slightly above JPAM 's historical average.
The method of deciding JPAM 's manuscripts increasingly favors peer review. This year only 23 percent of manuscripts were rejected without peer review, compared with 38 percent in the Journal 's first 15 years. The primary reason manuscripts are turned away without peer review is because their scopes are inappropriate for the Journal.
The acceptance rate this year was 12 percent, close to the average 15 percent of the first 15 years. This rate included in its base manuscripts rejected without peer review on scope grounds. The acceptance rate among peer-reviewed manuscripts was substantially higher, just over 21 percent.
