✦ Synopsis
In December 1994, Joseph Coulter, Jr. attended the AACR meeting on "Prostate Cancer Basic Research and Clinical Applications" and was impressed with a presentation by Dr. Ruth Sager, Dana Farber Institute, on the analysis of gene expression during tumor progression. He inquired as to whether she would be willing to organize a special symposium on this subject for international experts to exchange ideas on implementing new cancer therapy based on changes in genetic expression. Dr. Sager agreed and planning began.
