## Abstract The severest winter precipitation deficits in Portugal result from an enhancement in the stationary wave pattern of the atmospheric largeโ€scale circulation over the Northern Hemisphere, which implies a strengthening of the axially asymmetric eddies, mainly over the North Atlantic and ad
