✦ Synopsis
We are honored to represent John Pisano's many friends and colleagues from Japan in this memoriam. Over the last 20 years there were always one or more young scholars from Japan gaining practical scientific experience in his laboratory. It is a tribute to the extraordinary quality of the research conducted under John's direction that so many young scientists from abroad selected John as a mentor for their foreign experience.
As we recognize the rapidly expanding knowledge about the role polypeptides play in intracellular communication it is clear that Dr. John Pisano was a pioneer in a very important field. Without exception the young scientists from Japan who worked with John were successful in their research endeavors both in the discovery of new peptides and in the development of new methods for the study of peptides in biological material.
The experience of working in Dr. Pisano's laboratory provided us with an opportunity to learn both about discovery research in the United States and about the personal ethics of a fine individual. We will long remember the outstanding personal qualities that made John so well liked by his many colleagues in Japan.
