Review
The fourth book in Ms. Pence's Angie and Paavo series finds San Francisco homicide detective Paavo Smith combing the city for clues to several brutal murders. As the body count mounts, it becomes clear that there's a psychopath roaming the city, targeting the wives and lady friends of some of the city's most prominent citizens. Meanwhile, Paavo's love, chef Angie Amalfi is combing the city, too. Only she's on the lookout for the latest undiscovered restaurant to review for her column in a local restaurant magazine. When she stumbles into a tiny cafe run by three surly old men who have no idea how to run a restaurant but who have a way with marinara, Angie's sure she's found her diamond in the rough. If only the grumpy old men would take some of her well-intentioned advice. In between infrequent dates with the overburdened Paavo, Angie consults her quirky sisters about their views on matrimony. She's been thinking she and Paavo should take their relationship to the next level, but wedding bells may not be what she wants. Especially after listening to the complaints of everyone in her family. And thinking about a life with a man who's never even home most of the time. If only she and Paavo had time to talk, to really sit down and discuss the future. But Paavo hardly has time to stop by for dinner, let alone talk. As the killing continues and the clues mount, it dawns on Paavo that the killer's prey all had something in common. And if he's right, Angie may be next on the psychopath's list.As with the three books that came before it, Cooking Most Deadly is a well-plotted story with extremely engaging characters. This series just keeps getting better and better! I can't wait for book five! Like the perfect meal with the perfect partner, Cooking Most Deadly serves up an unbeatable blend of mystery, suspense, wit and romance! Ms. Pence has the winning recipe: two wonderfully-endearing and sexy characters tossed into a fast-moving and suspense-filled plot!Annette Carney -- Copyright ΠΒ© 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc.
