His loss is felt by his many colleagues, students, and friends around the world. Jim's major field of scientific interest was anthropology in its broadest sense, for to Jim this meant human biology, primatology, growth and development, primate anatomy, dental anthropology, paleoanthropology, and evolutionary theory. He possessed remarkable knowledge and, I might add, opinions on all of these topics. He enjoyed lively discussions of any of them, even on short notice. Jim was married and had two children. His wife, Margaret, preceded him in death by several years.
