The editor, from the School of Microbiology, University of New South Wales, Australia, points o u t in his introduction that adhesion and aggregation manifested themselves in many ways and are st,udied by researchers from a wide variety of disciplines. M. FLETCHER (Coventry, England) described the comparative physiology of attached and free-living bacteria. D. C. SAVAGE (Urbana, Ill.) wrote on the activities of microorganisms attached to living surfaces. H.-G. HOPPE (Kiel, F R Germany) contributed the "Attachment of Bacteria: Advantage or Disadvantage for Survival in the Aquatic Environment".
