A.A Milne, with his characteristic self-deprecating humour, recalls a blissfully happy childhood in the company of his brother and best friend, Ken, and writes with touching affection about his father who he adored and who died when Milne was only 12. From Westminster School he won a scholarship to Cambridge University where he edited the university magazine, Granta. He then went out into the world, more determined than ever to be a writer. After a stint at Punch Magazine, he enjoyed enormous success with his novels, plays and stories. And of course he is best remembered for his children's novels and verses featuring Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin. This is both an account of how a writer was formed and a charming period piece on literary life – Milne met countless famous author including H. G. Wells, J.M Barrie of Peter Pan fame and Rudyard Kipling.

D**This brief biography is compiled, largely, from an article by this writer, published in the Western Druggist, December, 1893, and reprinted in the Eclectic Medical Journal, Cincinnati, January and February, 1894. The writer regrets that space does not now permit of a more extended paper on the life of this remarkable man, a subject of absorbing interest. But those desiring gr-r details will find them in the admirable work of Professor Harvey Wickes Felter, M. D., in Bulletin No. 10 (Pharmacy Series No. 5), of the Lloyd Library of Botany, Pharmacy and Materia Medica. In this is also presented an admirable frontispiece engraving of the man whose work is herein described.

Those who are interested in this subject may read to advantage Runge’s attempt, made in 1820, and based on the dualistic chemistry of oxygen of that period. Ph A., for Dr. S. Solis Cohen, Chairman of the Committee on Scope, U. S. P. IX. It was also submitted in the report of the Committee on Patents and Trade Marks, of the Merchants’ and Manufacturers’ Association of Philadelphia, composed of Ernest T. Trigg (President Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce), Charles A. Wagner and Dr. F. E. Stewart, and approved. The matter in italics is suggested for revising the present U. S. Copyright and Patent Laws, and the subject is submitted for study by the members of the American Pharmaceutical Association, preparatory to its discussion at the next annual convention. The Committee received instructions at the last meeting to proceed with the revision, and the Chairman is desirous that the subject be carefully considered from every viewpoint.The Committee believes that all ambiguity now existing in the law should be removed in the revision. Provision should also be made in the law so that the inventor of a new process can secure a royalty from the original patentee. Attention is again directed that matter in italics embody the suggestions of the Committee for additions to the copyright, patent and trademark laws.—Editor.
