Abstract
All of us love the idea of a hero, someone who will do the heavy lifting and magically fix our problems. But waiting for a savior is counterproductive, the authors contend. Instead they introduce the model of βleadersβasβhosts.β This more inclusive leader is more suited to grappling with the big, seemingly insoluble problems routinely faced by organizations, communities, and countries. They point to examples of the successful implementation of this model in Columbus, Ohio, in dealing with such issues as healthcare, homelessness, and hunger.
