✦ Synopsis
This paper is concerned with the modelling and design of a catalytic polytropic fluidized-bed reactor. An iterative method to determine the degree of conversion and temperature profiles at steady states in such a reactor has been presented. In the proposed method the idea of homotopy is used and the solution of a set of integral equations derived from an original differential problem is suggested. The numerical experiments have proved that the method is convergent for both unique and multiple steady state regions. The method is general and universal in character. The Kunii and Levenspiel three-region mode1 of the fluidized bed has been used in order to describe the interior of the reactor.
