✦ Synopsis
The truncation boundary condition is a stumbling block in ( ) sol¨ing electromagnetic scattering problems by the finite-difference FD ( ) or finite-element FE methods. A simple, exact, and proper boundary condition is always desirable for use in terminating the FD mesh. In this ( ) article a no¨el iterati¨e boundary condition IBC is proposed for sol¨ing electromagnetic scattering problems by the FD method. This no¨el boundary condition, expressed by an exact two-point field equation ( ) 2PFE and deri¨ed from rigorous analysis of the scattered field or the radiation field, is obtained by an iteration process. The ¨alidation of the IBC and the con¨ergence of the iteration processes ha¨e been numeri-( ) cally studied. A number of two-dimensional 2D scattering problems ha¨e been successfully sol¨ed with IBC. The results agree ¨ery well with that obtained by the MoM and the MEI. This no¨el approach is simple in concept and easy to apply. It can possibly be extended to three-dimensional problems.
