✦ Synopsis
A large experimental program has been initiated at GSI to determine the production cross sections of heavy residues in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The complete isotopic distributions of spallation-evaporation residues of the reactions induced by 1 GeV protons and 2 GeV deuterons in 238 U are presented. The primary reaction products were fully identified in mass and atomic number prior to beta decay by using the fragment separator FRS. These data provide basic information to estimate the intensities of radioactive nuclear beams to become available in future RNB facilities using isotope separation on-line (ISOL) or in-flight separation techniques.
