โœฆ Synopsis

The effect of isotope mass on the behavior of the O-H defect in niobium was studied using internal friction techniques. Large. non-classical isot, ope effects were found for the jump frequencies, motion activation enthalpies, and binding enthalpies for the (lOO> tet.ragonal O-H and O-D defects. The theories of light ebment, interstitial diffusion are not able to satisfactorily account for the observed effects.

The NMR spectra of solutions of 30% 17 O-enriched H 2 O and D 2 O in nitromethane display the resonances of the three isotopomers H 2 O, HDO, and D 2 O. All 17 O, 1 H and 17 O, 2 H coupling constants and the primary and secondary isotope effects on J( 17 O, 1 H) have been determined. The primary eff

Path integral Monte Carlo calculations have been used to investigate the isotope effect on the "melting" of small clusters of para-hydrogen Q-H\*) and ortho-deuterium (o-D2). Phosphorescence lifetimes have been measured for acetone and acetone-leO in EPA glass and in the ~ystalUne state both at 77ยฐK. The lifetime of acetone-180 was found to be about 10% longer than that of normal acetone. These results are discussed in terms of theories of electronic relaxation. The fac
