β¦ Synopsis
The deuterium isotope effect on the radiationless transition from the lowest excited sin&t state of tetraphenylporphin has been investigated. Deuteration of the center imino hydrogen atoms of the porphin ring gives rise to large isotope effects. lengthening the fluorescence hfetimes and increasing the fluorescence and triplet quantum yields. These results indicate that N-H vibrations of the center of the porphin ring play an important role in internal conversion.
