โฆ Synopsis
The potential of Isotope ddutlon mductwely coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was evaluated for the determmatlon of trace amounts of uramum and thormm m sdlcate rocks Compared with conventlonal Isotope ddutlon methods usmg thermal lomzatlon mass spectrometers, the major benefit IS a large Increase m sample throughput wlthout a slgmflcant decrease m preclslon and accuracy Thrs results from direct hquld samphng at atmospherx pressure and from the capablhty of measurmg Isotope ratios on raw solutions, wIthout chemical separation of the analytes from the matrvr elements Isotope &l&Ion ICP-MS alleviates the need for matrut-matched standards Further, It 1s msensltlve to possible causes of mtenslty drift (e g , cloggmg of the plasma/mass spectrometer Interface and defocusmg of the Ion beam) and to chemical effects (e g oxide formatIon)
Results obtained on some InternatIonal rock standards are m good agreement with recommended values
