-A mathematical model 1s used to illustrate that the Influence of adsorbed species on the rate of an Isothermal catalytic reactlon may lead to sustamed osclllatlons This behavior may occur when mcreasmg fractional surface coverage by a reactant causes a reduction m the reaction rate Such a situation may occur, for example, when surface heterogeneity of the catalytic sites causes the actlvatlon energy of a rate constant to increase with surface coverage of the reactant Cnterla are presented for a-pnor predictions of the kmetlc and model parameters for whrch oscillatory behavior may or may not occur for a class of Langmuir-Hmshelwood mechanisms Numerical simulations are used to demonstrate the different types of periodic behavior predicted by the model
