โฆ Synopsis
In the first part of this paper a theory for isothermal homogeneous two-phase, liquid-gas flow in horizontal pipes is established by introducing the concept of Mach number and by considering the medium to be a pseudo gas. The theory takes account of wall friction, compressibility and flow choking. A set of working formulas is obtained. In the second part, results of experiments on homogeneous bubbly flows of water-air mixtures in a 1-in. pipe are reported. Criteria for the occurrence of bubbly flow are estobtished and the occurrence of flow chok, ing confirmed. It is shown that the mathematical model is adequate insofar as it explains, phenomenologically, real flow conditions.
