โœฆ Synopsis

Polygonal systems, corresponding to polycyclic conjugated hydrocarbons with arbitrary ring sizes, are studied. For the cases of two and three rings, generations of all C.H, isomers are indicated, and explicit formulae are given for their numbers. The symmetry groups are accounted for. Furthermore, a partial solution for the case of four rings is furnished. The combinatorial methods, which are employed, are based on some simple principles. They include the polygon-edge sum (Cq), viz. the sum of all ring edges taken individ-ualty.

## Abstract A method is described which allows the determination of subnanogram concentrations of monoโ€ and dinitrated polyaromatic hydrocarbons with two to four ring systems in aerosol samples. High performance liquid chromatography is used to separate the nitro compounds from other classes of sub
