Thiapentalenes have been postulated as hypervalent sulfur intermediates in a number of isomerizations of five-membered heterocycle^.'-^ During o u r studies on the cycloaddition-elimination reactions of 1,2,3,4-thiatriazoline-5-imines with isothiocyanates, we have discovered two consecutive isomerizations of a 1,2,4-thiadiazolidine ( 2 ) which are interpretable via thiapentalene intermedi-
