β¦ Synopsis
H,OsJ(CO),, converts I-pentene to its isomers in toluene at 70.4 "C at an initial rate which is not appreciably dependent on the carbon monoxide partial pressure and on the presence of weak acids and polar substances. Reactions of H20s3(CO)10 with trans-CzHzDt and [1,2-D2] I-pentene suggest the operation of o-alkyl intermediates. The large increase of the isomerising ability of H20s3(CO)Io with respect to OSCAR, compared with the relatively similar catalytic behaviour of Ru$CO)~~, H4Ru4(COJ12 and H2Ru4(C0),3, is ascribed to the different nature of the coordination step of the alkene.
