✦ Synopsis

We use a simple model, consisting of an Anderson-Moriya d resonance on a conduction band strongly perturbed by a Slater-Koster repulsive potential, to describe a rare earth impurity in an s-p metallic host. The calculation of the isomer shift is performed in two steps. First we solve the impurity problem, obtaining the s, p, and d occupation numbers at the impurity site. Then we deal with an atomic calculation of the rare earth probe, where outer electron (Sd, 6s, 6p) occupation numbers are obtained from the corresponding occupations at the impurity site. We obtain the total electronic amplitude at the rare earth nucleus and define a convenient parameter in order to compare our theoretical predictions with experimental results.
