Abstract

The isolation of the eye pigments drosopterin and isodrosopterin from Drosophila melanogaster, their molecular weight determination and the alkaline degradation of the pigments is described. The identification of 6 hydrolysis products leads to the proposal of a new structural formula for the drosopterins as atropisomeric dipterinyl‐methane dyestuffs (13).
