## Abstract We used atomic force microscopy (AFM) to characterize the plasma membrane of __Xenopus laevis__ oocytes. The samples were prepared according to novel protocols, which allowed the investigation of the extra‐ and intracellular sides of the membrane, both of which showed sparsely distribut

## Abstract Atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to investigate the native plasma membrane of __Xenopus laevis__ (__X. laevis__) oocyte purified by means of ultracentrifugation on sucrose gradient and subsequently adsorbed on mica leaves through a physisorption process. Reproducible AFM topograph
