One novel cellular myc gene (cβmyc), __GM__1, was isolated from a tetraploid cyprinid, the goldfish Carassius auratus. __GM__1 consisted of one nonβcoding exon and two coding exons, presumably encoding a protein of 390 amino acid (aa) residues. The aa identity between __GM__1 and __GM__2, another cβmyc previously isolated from this species, was 88Β·8%. Quantitative RTβPCR analysis revealed that __GM__1 was specifically expressed in liver and __GM__2 in ovary.
