## Abstract The α‐aminoadipate pathway for the biosynthesis of lysine is present in yeast and other higher fungi. The __lys2__ and __lys5__ mutants of __Saccharomyces cerevisiae__ as well as the __lys1__– and __lys7__ –mutants of __Schizosacharomyces pombe__ are blocked at the α‐aminoadipate reduct

✦ Synopsis
A gene designated tfsl has been isolated from Schizosaccharomyces pombe based on its similarity to genes encoding transcription elongation factor TFIIS. The nucleotide sequence of the tfsl gene predicts a polypeptide with similarity to mammalian, Drosophila and Saccharomyces cerevisiae TFIIS. A haploid Sz. pombe strain with tfsl deleted from the genome is viable. Thus, tfsl is not essential for viability. However, deletion of tfil results in slow growth and increased sensitivity to the drug 6-azauracil, a phenotype similar to that of a S. cerevisiae strain deleted for the gene encoding TFIIS. The DNA sequence of tfsl has been deposited in GenBank under Accession Number U20526.

## Abstract TCR signaling leads to the activation of kinases such as inducible tyrosine kinase (Itk), a key regulatory protein in T‐lymphocyte activation and function. The homolog of Itk in B cells is Bruton's tyrosine kinase, previously shown to bind and phosphorylate the transcription factor TFII
The ATF2 gene encodes alcohol acetyltransferase II, which catalyses the synthesis of isoamyl acetate from acetyl coenzyme A and isoamyl alcohol. To characterize the ATF2 gene from the bottom fermenting yeast Saccharomyces pastorianus, the S. pastorianus ATF2 gene was cloned by colony hybridization u
