The amorphous alloy Pd 40 Cu 30 P 20 Ni 10 has been produced by water quenching the molten alloy. The kinetics of crystallisation has been measured by means of isothermal and isochronal differential scanning calorimetry. The associated microstructural changes have been analysed using scanning electr

Abstract
Measurements of torque relaxation upon isochronal (= linear) heating of bulk and ribbon glassy Pd~40~Cu~30~Ni~10~P~20~ differing βΌ10^4^βfold in the production quenching rates have been performed. It has been found that torque relaxation in bulk samples is notably faster than that in the ribbons despite the fact that the former are denser. Preannealing at a temperature T~a~ strongly decreases the relaxation rate at all temperatures T β€ T~a~ and shifts the relaxation curves towards higher temperatures similarly in bulk and ribbon samples. The relaxation law has been determined. It has been revealed that rapid quenching of thermally aged samples from the supercooled liquid state recovers the ability to plastic flow. A fast X-ray diffraction apparatus has been developed for obtaining the local structures of bulk metallic glasses at the supercooled liquid state by applying the DebyeΒ±Scherrer camera geometry in combination with a curved position sensitive proportional counter. This arrangement makes it possible to
