✦ Synopsis

In a recent paper, Rutherford and Lindquist (1998. Nature 396:336-342) identified mutations in the Hsp90 protein that act to unmask hidden genetic variation with a variety of phenotypic effects. The Hsp90 protein has a number of properties that suggest a role in regulating the expression of genetic variation and therefore in adjusting the evolvability of the organism. In this paper we reflect upon the evolutionary feasibility of such mechanisms and suggest some possible ways of testing the adaptation-for-evolvability hypothesis in more detail. We conclude that Hsp90 holds promise as a molecular model system for the evolution of evolvability.

## Abstract Recently, several stress‐related proteins including GRP78, hsp70, and hsp90 have been implicated as dengue virus receptors in various cell types, with hsp90/70 being implicated as a receptor complex in monocytes and macrophages, while GRP78 has been implicated as a liver cell expressed

## Abstract Stat1 has been known as a regulator of gene expression and a mediator of IFNγ signaling in mammalian cells, while its effect in a heat shock response remains unclear. We used RNAi knockdown, point mutations, ChIP and promoter activity assays to study the effect of Stat1 on the heat‐shoc
