In the course of the present paper, a reversible electrode system is considered to be one which obeys the Nernst equation corresponding to the overall electrode reaction (in the present case 0 2 + 2H20 +4e = 4 OH ) and the potentialis independent of the electrode material. In all other cases, the system is irreversible.
