โฆ Synopsis
By usmg a cw tunable CO, laser, a bimolecular reaction can be induced in a binary SO, -CO gas mixture with one reactant (SO,) as photoabsorbing species. The participation of a metastable triplet state of SO, responsible for the CO photo-oxidation is demonstrated and the minimum overall internal free energy of the reaction is esttmated.
