Abstract
Manning's and Scatchard's models for the description of ion–polyelectrolyte interactions are compared in the case of linear polyelectrolytes and bivalent counterions, where “condensation” of the counterions is known to occur for certain concentration ratios of the two species in solution. This comparison leads to the definition of certain conditions on Scatchard's parameters for a precise structural interpretation of Scatchard's plots to be valid. Experimental data obtained with both models are compared and found in good agreement under such conditions.
