โฆ Synopsis
A polystyrene-based
ionomer was prepared by reaction of poly(styrene-co-methacrylic acid) with a transition metal salt. The ionomer was used to synthesize an interpenetrating network (IPN). The effect of the concentration of ionomer and the ionogenic groups on the crosslinking and the thermal stability of IPN has been studied. The phase behaviour of the IPN has also been studied using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Crosslinking decreases with an increase in the concentration of ionomer and witb a decrease in concentration of ionogenic groups. The IPNs are thermally stable up to 250-300ยฐC and do not exhibit significant phase separation.
