Visible absorption spectra of the CuCl+ and CuCl; complexes in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) are derived from an auxiliary study of the Cu(CIO,), + Et,NCI mixed solutions of variable chloride concentration. The second step association equilibrium CuCI+ + Cl-= CuCl; is then shown, from the visible absor

✦ Synopsis
Visible absorption spectra and the molar conductance curve for CoCI, in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) have been determined and are analyzed in terms of the nature of ionization equilibria set up in the respective solutions. Auxiliary absorption spectra determinations of the CoCl, + Et,NCl and Co (CIO,), + Et,NCI mixed solutions indicate consecutive formation of the CoCI(DMSO)c, CoCI,DMSO-, and CoCI:-complex ions, in addition to the Co(DMSO)z+ parent cation. Coordinative disproportiouation producing the CoCls DMSOcomplex anion is shown to predominate in the more concentrated solutions of CoCl, in DMSO. Consecutive stability constants of the chlorocomplexes of cobalt(H) are derived.
