Factors controlling electronic conduction in oxides are first discussed. Criteria for achieving predominant ionic conduction are then developed. The role of nonstoichiometry in influencing mixed ionic-electronic conductivity, MIEC, is then evaluated, followed by an examination of the impact of MIEC
