✦ Synopsis
The hyperfiltratlon of single electrolyte and mixed electrolyte solutions of KC1 and CaCl, was investigated using a formed-m-place polyelectrolyte blend membrane The membranes contained poly (acryhc acid) and poly (ethylene rmine) and possessed an excess of positive fixed charges at the pH of the experiments, approximately 4, making the K+ and Ca2+ co-ions to the fixed charge. Probstein's electrokmetlc model in its analytic form reduced to the wall potential as the single parameter was apphed to the ion passages. The results demonstrate the utility of this limited form of the model in descrlbmg multlion passages m a hyperfiltratlon system where none of the Ions interact strongly enough with the membrane to alter its hyperfiltration characterlstlcs significantly.
