✦ Synopsis

Product distributions and rate constants for the reactions of ground state N+ions with CO, NO, Oz. and CH4 were measured. Rate constants were obtained using ion cyclotron resonance trapped ion methods at JPL, and product diitr~butions were obtained using a tandem (Dempster-ICR) mass spectrometer at the University of Utah. Rapid nitrogen isotope exchange was also observed in N'-NZ collisions.

It is shown that the proton affinities of benzaldehyde, 4-methylene-cyclohexadienc-2,6-one-1 and of troponc calculated by MINDO/3 correlate well with those determined by ion cyclotron resonance in the gas phase. Within the past decade ab initio [l-4] and semiempirical [S] molecular orbital methods
