✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Ion‐selective electrodes (ISEs) were developed by impregnating plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) membranes with a complex of triisobutylphosphine sulfide and Hg^2+^. The electrodes were selective for halides and thiocyanate, iodide being the preferred anion. The overall selectivity pattern of the electrodes was I^βˆ’^> SCN^βˆ’^ β‰ˆοΈ Br^βˆ’^ > Cl^βˆ’^ > No β‰ˆοΈ ClO > No β‰ˆοΈ SO. The electrodes were evaluated in both batch and flow‐injection modes.
