✦ Synopsis

This paper deals with the problem of the degradation of high temperature superconductor (HTS) performance with time. The aim of the studies was the selection of a material suitable as a protective permanent coating. By tracking the trend with time of the critical current values, the effectiveness of various commercial plastic resins was checked for their effect just after the coating and in the long term. The investigation was performed on YBCO films, Ϸ 60 m thick, deposited on silver strips using the high velocity oxygen fuel technique. An experimental apparatus for routine measurements of J c is also briefly introduced.
