โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
This article describes two designs of a Coplanar Inverted F Antenna (CIFA) which employ a microstripline as a feeding element and openโend ground slots to obtain a multiband operation in the frequency band of 2.4 and 6 GHz.Investigations are performed with regard to two different orientations of ground slots one being parallel and the other perpendicular to CIFA. Initially, the CIFA element is designed to operate at 2.45 GHz in the absence of ground slots. Next, openโend ground slots suitably coupled to the feeding microstripline are added to obtain operation at higher frequencies. The two configurations of multiband CIFA are fabricated and experimentally assessed in terms of return loss, radiation pattern, and gain. The radiation mechanism is studied through the simulated distributions of surface current densities. ยฉ 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
