Investigations have been carried out on the carotenoids in

Verongia aerophoba (Sc~MIDT) (Porifera: Spongiidae) from the Adriatic Sea. The presence of the earotenoids fl-carotene, y-carotene, isozeaxanthin, lutein (ester and free), zeaxanthin, violaxanthin, neoxanthin, astaxanthin and astaeene was determined by means of columnar and thin-layer chromatography.
