The process of adsorption and desorption of sulphur dioxide on a low-ash active carbon is studied, in the temperature range between 130°C and 17O"C, using two different gaseous mixtures containing SO,. Oxygen, present at the adsorption stage, plays a very important role in the variation of the amont of SO, adsorbed during some adsorption-desorption cycles; this effect is closely related to the variation of certain important characteristics of the carbon.
