✦ Synopsis
of Xe at P pressure of 10 ton has been excited by monochromatic Gght in the wavelength re&n from 1040 A to 1500 A. Besides the well-known f&.t and second continua, additional emission bands appear at 1192 A and 13O# A. They are ascribed, respectively, to 3~ atomic transition Sd13/2)1 -+ Oi('So + 'SO). The excitation spectra of the firs 1 So and a motecuhr transition ~~~65'{1/ 2t+ 'SoI -+ : and second continua have high fluorescence efficiency yields if higher Rydberg states arc excited. Excitation of the fast resonance line of Xe results in tow ffuorescence intensity. Obviously the formation of highly excited molecules Xez* and intramolecular relaxation plays an important role for the popuhtion of the vibratiorrrtlly relaxed excited states CO;, lu) of the Xa; moiecule.
