Abstract

The field and temperature dependencies of the first and third harmonics of the ac magnetic susceptibilities of a granular Bi‐2223 superconductor have been investigated. Model calculations have been performed on the basis of a theoretical model that incorporates collective creep concepts in a critical‐state equation by considering the temperature‐dependent effective volume fraction. The predictions of the model for the field and temperature dependencies of the first and third harmonics were found to be in good agreement with experimental data. The microwave dissipation induced by the interaction of AC magnetic field with the vortex system is reported for the first time in a Bi-2223 compound. It is the third high anisotropy compound, in addition to Bi-2212 and the organic superconductor j(ET 2 )Cu(NCS) 2+ , where similar microwave dissipat
