✦ Synopsis

In the last decade detailed mechanism-determination studies have been carried out on the oxidation of oxalic acid 1-6.

A possible mechanism has been suggested by Johnson et al. in the case of platinum and gold electrodes 4'5. In the proposed mechanism the adsorption step and the adsorption equilibrium of oxalic acid play an important role. It seemed to us that the direct study of the adsorption of oxalic acid at potentials where the oxidation does not proceed might contribute to the determination of the nature of the adsorption and the mechanism of oxidation.

This paper gives an account of our investigation on the adsorption of oxalic acid on platinized platinum electrodes at room temperature. EXPERIMENTAL

Various methods of the tracer technique have been elaborated for investigating the adsorption of ions and organic compounds1 12. Among the methods reported in the literature, those described in refs. 4, 6 and 9 seems to be the most convenient for tracer techniques with isotopes emitting soft/?-rays.
