✦ Synopsis
A systematic investigation of spectra of multiply ionized carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen from a Z-pinch plasma interacting with a cold gas is presented. A possibility of the charge-exchange process between high-and low-charged (or neutral) ions being responsible for the observed inversion of level populations in H-, He-and Li-like ions is discussed.
